This hasn't been updated to include Kavanaugh, but as you can see they took a moderate/median justice (Kennedy) and replaced him with a fairly far right justice (Kavanaugh). Roberts - a guy that leans right - is now now probably the median. It's pretty easily a swing right court, if not a straight conservative court. "

You're still ignoring that these are all simply surveys. There's no objective indication that the guns saved lives or prevented injury. It's a measure of how safe people felt, not a measure of how safe people really were - which can be two different things.

Also, that 1997 figure is cited in the source from 2018. They specifically cited it themselves. If you read the actual source, instead of just what Forbes reported on the source, you'd have seen that. "

And it's not even remotely close.
In 1997, the report of 108,000 lives being saved due to guns. That same year, there were over 1,000,000 people that were involved in firearm violence. It's not just about the people whose die or don't die. "

Here's the CDC quoted in Forbes

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulhsi.../#263fd9db5edc
To quote the actual source:

Quote:
Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010). On the other hand, some scholars point to a radically lower estimate of only 108,000 annual defensive uses based on the National Crime Victimization Survey (Cook et al., 1997). The variation in these numbers remains a controversy in the field. The estimate of 3 million defensive uses per year is based on an extrapolation from a small number of responses taken from more than 19 national surveys. The former estimate of 108,000 is difficult to interpret because respondents were not asked specifically about defensive gun use.
As far as I can tell, these estimates are:

a.) based on asking people how they feel, which means it's mostly a report of someone feeling safer than actually being safer
b.) specifically ignoring surveys that report much lower rates of DGUs. "

Yeah, now I'm convinced. Either you're purposely creating this false equivalence or you actually believe the cake itself is the problem. "

Uh...Maxine Waters didn't say she hoped the country failed or had any harm come to it - which was my request.

Also, Bill Maher is pretty routinely ridiculed and mocked by liberal pundits. People - by and large - don't take him seriously. "

What're your thoughts on this? "
